I read where bird mites can only live a short time without bird blood. If this is true why is it so hard to get rid of them?

In the beginning I read they could not complete life cycle on humans. That was almost 2 years ago, so unless they live over 2 years I doubt that’s true. They are very hard to get rid of. I’ll paste my 2 cents below and you keep trying various suggestions on this site also. I know its hard and can be lonely battle and energy sapping. I could talk a whole book on what I’ve been thru and many attempted remedies. Hard to keep from being depressed at times.

I understand your situation. I’ve been dealing with bird mites for while. I was attacked clearing my deceased dads house almost 2 years ago and it was a lot of hell at first. I can tell you some good advice but no silver bullet cure for now. The first thing is your diet. Eliminate sugars, dairy, caffeine, alcohol, fast/most can foods and meats except fish (no frying only baked). ): Yes I know. These mite things thrive off these foods/beverages mainly. I love coffee and suffer attack after drinking, have had to curtail intake. If you can’t eliminate, reduce and then reduce intake more. Our normal diets are a breeding ground for these parasites. Also treating rooms if infested is great but if they are burrowed in your skin taking showers only temporary relief, I know. Must attack them internally also with healthy diet and medicines. Look at the suggestions by others on this site. I can recommend Ivermectin paste, drinking lemon/vinegar water and taking antibiotics. I rub head and face with Vaseline/castor oil at night to hinder their movement. I don’t think one relief/cure fits all sufferers. These products have curbed my symptoms but not killed. But controlling my diet very helpful. I am much better than last year, very depressing still. Docs no help for me. Look on this forum and site for others remedies one may be silver bullet for you. I just saw a few more I’m going to try. I feel your pain.

Recommended Treatment Provider

We recommend you use a licensed professional to address a bird mite problem. Don’t wait or the problem will get much worse and more expensive to treat. We have a list of pest control companies that are specifically qualified to treat bird mites.

  • They come to your house for no charge and give a free estimate.
  • Even if you decide not to use them, you get free professional advice.
  • Most pest control companies have never dealt with bird mites before. You need to use a bird mite specialist.

Follow this link to find a Qualified Local Exterminator near you.

Keep in mind that if bird mites are not treated correctly, even if the correct chemicals are used, they can become resistant to those chemicals. Don’t use a pest control company unless they have extensive experience treating bird mites.

Also, many of our readers have followed up with (or used outright) natural solutions and pesticide-free, such as on our Treatments Protocols page Follow this link to that page.
