I did a nice trip to Europe because I just got retired, after been invalid. I was having fun in a vineyard, which had some chickens. My task was to take care of them. Some time after arriving there, I got some tickles on my back, which stopped after a nice shower. Then, at night at bed, but I suposed it was the bed and I got some insecticid spray to put on it. Then, I finally came back, after some months there. But, after a month at home, I was shocked! My life at home was a mess and was sleeping on the floor of the bathroom, trying to running away from something that I didnt know what it was. I tried many people as biologist and entomologist, all said something bizarre. But, when I saw this site, birdmites, I was convinced that they re in love with me there and follow me more than 12000km!!!! They came on my fleece clothes. First, I became nuts. I started crying, praying for God to help me, feeling crazy and alone. I live in an apartment so its a fight for living. Me or them. There s no other way. I started spending a lot of money on insecticids, but it didnt help really. All the piretroids (permethrin, deltamethrin etc) dont work well and, in my town, there s few companies that make something against bird mites. Now I have a little less bird mites because I put a huge amount of insecticids on them, but I still have them. But what I noticed that really works: borax, petrol. Insecticids just get rid of them for minutes or hours in my case. I try to fight them back. I read how they live and I discovered that they eat at night. So, I forced them to get hungry, because I dont wanna be their hamburger. I sleep in the bathtub, I wake up every hour to change water for hot water. I pray for the morning. They are very upset with me, but Im not the kind of person who gonna be eaten quietly… I fight back! I put some solid Vaseline on my eyes to avoid their vengeance. I put all the clothes and things like that in bags, hoping that they die. I wash my clothes with dish detergent (by the way, I didnt understand quite well what is good to do with it!) and borax. I have had Ivermectin to control their birth, but it doesnt work fast or fast as I wish. I noticed that sulfur soap or Denorex or something it tar gives a little refresh to the skin. I also want to ask you all to say, not only the comercial name of the product, but the active principle of you indicate because its different in my country (Brasil). So we can share better the information to save us. I read many academic articles about experience with chickens and their bird mites. Some say to put NEEM oil, but I just used it to clean, not to put on my body. Some say about mineral oil from petrol. Old people used to put kerosene on skin. Im very alergic, so I first put some olive or coconut oil and, then, kerosene. I cheoose to be all the time at home naked, because its getting me mad about the tickles. I just put clothes on when I have to go out. Many people here told about how much expensive this was and I say, YES, it was, but it was more expensive because, at first, we didnt know exactly with what we re dealing with. So I spend a lot of money with insecticid which was not good enough. Now Im trying inseticid that I have bought and clean all with borax. What really worked for me it was a profissional spray for agriculture that I bought. When the mites are eating me, I put it on my back and start to spray on them! Its so nice! I really hope to get rid of them, I prayed for it a lot, and Im glad to know that I have all of you to help me! Bless you!

Keep in mind that if bird mites are not treated correctly, even if the correct chemicals are used, they can become resistant to those chemicals. Don’t use a pest control company unless they have extensive experience treating bird mites.
