Dear reader,
Over ten years ago I was infected by an infestation of bird mites which took place in my parents home (so they think). Ever since I have been living a nightmare with all of you who also suffer, have suffered and will suffer. All I can tell you is that my biggest hope and help through all of this and everything terrible and traumatic in my life has been God and His Son Jesus. I am Catholic, though not raised, and going to Mass and confession before I became a Catholic led to my further conversion and healing of addictions. Complete healing.
However, I have had to suffer through the bird mites without much help or remedy other than what I’ve read on this site and tried and what I have tried myself.
I recommend these aids to try because they have helped me to get by, not completely heal and eradicate, but live reasonably comfortably.First of all, very importantly, I read the account of someone here who tried microwaving their clothes and how this worked for them. Several years ago I started to microwave my clothes in my large LG microwave and it helped immensely as they cannot survive it. Now I have a second microwave (just for clothing, etc) that I keep in the garage on a table which is perfect because it is located next to my laundry room (I live in a one story small cottage home).
Now I recommend you do this (keep it away from you and the family) because of the radiation which is dangerous. The garage is safe for me, but just leave the room you have it in immediately.
I recommend 30-40-45 seconds for every two to three items. Clothes such as jeans, cotton, polyester, most materials (believe it or not) are not flammable. Some are, so stay present from a distance at first until it becomes intuitive. Always pay attention to the time you punch in, or it can catch fire. I have proceeded to learn to put everything from my bedding (sheet and pillowcases together for 45sec-1min/low), to my one blanket (I use only soft large throw blankets because the comforters and blankets become infested and cannot be folded and rolled up into the microwave).
I microwave two large folded towels with face clothes and hand towels at a time of 40sec. Yes, if you do this with everything, including undergarments, you will not have to constantly wash your regular clothes and you will be able to keep everything instead of constantly replacing undergarments, etc. “Nuking” them will kill them.
It is not until recently that most of my bites have subsided. However, I do still occasionally get infected bites. I have an immediate remedy but it isn’t healthy, pleasant or perfect–it will kill the infected bites (burrowed mite infections) immediately and heal your skin within days, or a couple of weeks depending on the infection—not months. And you will not scar, or you will have very few.
For this I discovered OFF! Deep Woods, the bug spray WITH deet (I know). I spray it very close to the bite sites and if you feel itchy all over, you can spray this all over your body and it will bring immediate relief so you can sleep. I also use it (in small amounts) on my face (spray it on your finger and apply) for the smaller bites to prevent scarring, and also on my scalp when I feel movement and feel they might be trying to bite.
I have pretty much eradicated scarring, have been able to function, sleep through the night and have a lot more hope because of this product. It smells terribly, but it works!I also use Nix because of the permethrin, for my hair and scalp. That is wear I think a lot of people face the problem. I use it when my scalp has an infected feeling. I actually apply it to washed, damp, combed hair before my other hair oil and treatments, and I leave it in. It doesn’t smell that noticeable after a while, and others don’t seem to notice. I really helps a lot. The mites must not be allowed to reproduce in your hair or scalp.
I also wash my face with a demodex face wash, which has many anti-mite ingredients such as cedar oil, lemongrass oil, etc and is cruelty-free. The company is Ovante and you will want to purchase the Demodex Control face wash and use it after you’re normal face wash. I wash my eyebrows with it too. It helps with the face bites a lot.
Also, I would recommend a small box of alcohol wipes for small bites on the face as this also helps the bites to disappear, along with any pimples. You can find the Ovante brand on Amazon, along with everything else I recommended; or a drug store for the OFF!My last recommendation to you is buy plenty of Lysol. It kills the mites and you can spray it on furniture like bedding, pillows that you don’t sleep on (reading bolster pillows), etc.
Every day I recommend putting your sheets in the microwave (I only use the mattress sheet and a throw blanket to reduce wash and contamination). When I take everything off I recommend spraying your mattress with the Lysol, and your pillow front and back (which should have a protective cover on it). If you purchase an air purifier, this will not only clean up the chemicals and air, but helps with white noise at night.I initially slept on inflatable beds for a long period of time until I finally found the solution. I bought a matress-in-a-box for a little over $200+ which I found on Amazon. The mattress is a hybrid and is the most comfy, I love it! I bought the brand Vesgantii and just left the airtight plastic on it—they never get in to infest it that way, and it has worked for me thus far, after many months. I sleep peacefully now. You must have a mattress for body support and a restful sleep. Inflatables can work but will eventually break down and that’s a lot of waste in a landfill.
With these ideas I have been able to cope and live with this parasitosis until I find a cure.
So, save your clothes, your towels, blankets and sheets, and invest in a medium -large “specialty” microwave. It saves water, Mother Earth and discomfort:)
DO NOT put anything with metal, or metal threaded pieces in the microwave. Jeans and undergarments are ok, as long as the undergarments do not have metal underwire.
I have been able to nuke almost everything, including hair scrunchies.*Please, if something happens, remember I’m recommending the idea I read of another victim, and I also have had trials and errors with the microwave-just be VERY careful; but it works.*
I am so sorry you are all going through this. I wish you the peace of God. He is not punishing us with this. It is happening to innocent animals too. I feel sorry for them as well. Remember it can more seriously affect those with weak immune systems, as I have. It’s not you’re fault. Don’t be ashamed of yourselves and ask for help if you need it. Do not give up hope. God can heal us and help us if we ask Him too. God loves you!
Many blessings to you. I hope a cure is found soon so we can be set free!Hang on and be brave!!
