I have been struggling with an unknown pest biting me for months. I am hoping that maybe someone can let me know if what I’m experiencing sounds like birdmites? It’s so hard to confirm because pest control/doctors are not used to diagnosing a problem like this.
Basically to make a long story short, my apartment I’m renting has been treated 4-5 times for fleas and the biting problem persists. I am being bit the very next day after treatment. I go to my doctor and explain the situation and they give me scabies cream. That works for whatever time period I am wearing the cream and then it’s back to bites the next day. I have sticky flea traps all over the apartment and nothing is ever on them. I am also constantly spraying flea sprays on my furniture, bedding, etc. and still being bit. I also have noticed a lot of the time I will have bites that seem to disappear quickly, like they’re almost superficial or “test bites”. They are red and itchy for maybe a few hours and the next day there’s nothing there. So of course this is also making me feel like I’m insane because when I try to show people evidence of my bites, it’s not there anymore. The problem seems to be much worse at night, and the bites are usually concentrated in areas like my neck, shoulders, chest, face, and back. I often feel the tingling sensation of something crawling on my skin but see nothing there, and I feel the sensation near my nostrils/mouth/ears at night when I lay in bed. Additionally, I also started experiencing flu-like symptoms of sore throat, runny nose, redness and dryness on my lips/nose, an enlarged lymph node, and white specks in the back of my throat. I was tested for strep throat and it was negative, but I was given 10 days of amoxicillin anyway. This seemed to help a little during those 10 days, but the lymph node is still swollen and I still have sore throat and runny nose after the antibiotics ran their course, and it’s particularly more evident in the mornings when I wake up. I am concerned that the mites may be in my respiratory system from entering my nose/mouth and causing some sort of infection? But I don’t even know if this will make sense to anyone else or if I’ve just been doing too much googling and self-diagnosing.
I actually left my apartment and I am currently staying at my parents house to see if I can find some relief. I showered and covered my body in permethrin cream after arriving (probably the third day in a row I did this) and I am now showering twice a day with tea tree shampoo and body wash. I have my suitcases quarantined on the patio and I am slowly taking my clothes out to wash and dry on the highest setting before wearing or storing anywhere in the house. Yet, I am still feeling like I have that creepy crawling feeling on my skin and I am being “test-bit”. I don’t know what other kind of pest at this point could have survived repeated doses of permethrin cream, 2 showers a day, and hot laundry but it seems like maybe bird mites is the answer. I am no longer in the infested environment and it’s honestly baffling to me.
Does anyone have any insight? I am desperate for someone to believe me or related to what I’m experiencing.

Hi dsmith813,
I had the same thing in my house that was biting me everyday. I could not see it, only feel it. After a few weeks of getting bit constantly. I tried the following thing: mix a spray bottly with alcohol and vinegar lavenderoil and cedaroil. Spray your entire house with it, especially near your clothes anand kitchen bathroom, and within minutes you will find very small biting gnats that are so small! They died so fast because of the spray. Also burning incence helps a lot. I hope this helps you. Greetz Ranu-

It’s a bug kill it, it will die there’re many things to kill bugs. My favorite is Arm & Hammer powder laundry soap. If they’re on me I take 3 tablespoons and put it in a 32 oz shampoo bottle with warm water and a rubber band on it pill identifier shake it up for about 20 seconds add 3 tablespoons Osborne borax shake it up for 10 more seconds take a shower weather up the shampoo all over me regular shampoo pour the bottle over my had head. I leave it there 3 – date rinse off with water, then take tablespoon of coconut oil in 32 oz of warm water above 76° so it melts the coconut oil for it over my head. I do not go lie down in my bed if I get it there I go lay on a piece of plastic on the floor that I missed with the coconut oil water same concentration 1 tbsp for 32 oz of water they cannot crawl over the plastic while the oils on there that gives me about 6 to 8 hours of no bites. How would then wake up in the morning and dust my carpets would baking soda leave it down for a while vacuum it up. It works this is a spider it lives on the ceiling so I throw the baking soda soda hat the ceiling I stand 3 feedback from the corner and throw it at the corner area then back up three feet and throw it again with sidearm throw Distributing it at the ceiling on an angle of a 45 degrees until all the ceilings been hit that covers the room also. Bugs can live in baking soda to dry it will dry them out and kill them in a couple days days. Anytime I feel like I take it a little duster and dust off all the shelves push it to the carpet and vacuum it up. All my clothes are washing Arm & Hammer powder laundry soap if they’re extremely itchy clothes I soak them overnight with bleach bottles on top to hold them down in the water. If I thought my throat was being bothered by something I will go to earthclinic.com and write my problem in there there’s over a hundred and fifty thousand cures. If you ingest coconut oil 1 tbsp every 8 hours for 4 days it cures mono mono usually has a very strong sore throat that cannot be cured. 35 people list at Earth Clinic that they were cured buy coconut oil in God’s grace by 2 tablespoons of coconut oil every 8 hours for 4 days some said one tablespoon of coconut oil every 8 hours for 4 days but they were all cured in the all went and got a blood test. It works I know it does I tried it it cured mono for me. There’s many other diseases these bugs bring possibly I believe the coconut oil everyday at least a half of ounce is very helpful for the body to fight this bug and it’s strange occurrences. God bless you call anytime you can email me to Doe 1769 at yahoo.com

Oops I had a typo I usually take the Arm and Hammer laundry soap 3 tablespoons per 32 oz of water and leave it on my head and body for 3 minutes maybe 8 minutes. Rinse off and it usually stops a whole lot of itching. Something about the alkalinity all of the powdered version Arm & Hammer laundry soap causes the bug to leave you alone. It works very well and works very well for washing things with too. Some areas don’t cure as fast I used benzoyl peroxide 2% buy Acme. Org oh wait a minute make that acne like pimple. Org acne.org that’s it it’s at Walmart or amazon.com it’s cheap it’s painless it has no smell it doesn’t burn it doesn’t sting Pitstops the itch in one minute. So does Ted’s mange cure witches 16 oz peroxide 32 oz of water two tablespoons of borax mixed together apply after shower to he areas leave on all day it has no smell no staying no burn no fizzle because the borax has neutralized the peroxide. If Ever I feel a bite I reach for the bottle of that stuff I keep in my pocket and I apply it and it stops the itch right away if not I repeat in 20 more minutes. Also kills germs that the bug brains and whatever weird disease and tries to carry around. For the car I soak the seeds same mixes a shampoo three tablespoons per 32 oz over wateroh, borax and Arm and Hammer powder laundry soap. After I soak it I suck it out with a wet back and then I move a hair dryer around in the car every 6 hours for about 36 hours I leave it in there and it dries the car very well. This helps a lot with bugs. When I’m done and it’s dry I cover the seats and baking soda and rub it in really good and then vacuum it out later. If they ever attacked me while I’m driving I pull over and throw two boxes of baking soda all over the ceiling all over the car throw a plastic sheet over the front seat and go back to driving in Blissful plugless when I get home I take a leave blower and blow the car out and takes about 15 seconds. Baking soda cost $0.50 a box. It’s cheap and bugs hate it and if you leave it down they die if you apply everyday you exterminate them. But you might have to use other measures also because they crawled deep & hide. Pretty hard God’s the Healer God bless you, Bill
