My battle started 10 months ago when I let a roommate move in with a big dog. Prior to that I had no pets. My house is surrounded by trees. Once the dog started to go in and out she brought the mites in with her. The dog had an infection and my roommate took her to the vet and she was cured, but then I started to notice bites and I became the host. At first I thought it was skin allergies and I went to my primary care doctor and was treated with cortisone shot steroids and a topical cream. After a month of this treatment I became worse.
Eventually I was treated for scabies but this did not help. These mites dance in Permethrin. The only thing that has helped me has been a mixture of canola oil, orange Listerine, Pine-Sol, Neem oil and apple cider vinegar. I put them all in a bottle, shake it, and apply it head to toe in the morning and at night.
No baths have helped, showers only. Scrubbing my skin has not helped. My couch is now covered with plastic, and I don’t let anyone come over. My roommate has not been affected and he thinks I’m crazy. Why me and not him? Where is the research and funding for this problem, when will we get help? What has happened to these bird mites to make them resistant – are they some type of superbug? Where is the CDC? Why don’t they help!! Do they attack women more than men – do we have different blood chemistry? I wish I had more answers. Any help or comments would be appreciated.

I was wondering the same whwn it comes to attacking women more than men. I am also pregnant, so I am wondering if that causes even more of a reaction/ideal host. I know I read that diff people have diff reactions based on their bodies & immune systems, etc. Currently, my boyfriend has been dreadful throughout my entire battle. He got bit ONCE and decided we needed a hotel for the night after I suffered for months with no recognition. In 4 short months, this has torn my life apart. What I want to know is if you still see the actual mites crawling around? I had a bird nest in my walls in April and May then the mites were all through my bedroom visibly on the walls and I started cleaning ferociously at that time. Eventually, I couldnt see them anymore but warned him, my landlord, & family that once the birds left the nest they would disperse everywhere. Sure enough about 2-3 weeks later I was getting viciously attacked throughout my entire apartment and I was carrying a lint roller with me everywhere. As soon as I felt biting ID lint roll the area and there were tiny specks every single time I did. Unfortunately, I hadnt bought a microscope yet at the time. I had to eat on my front porch where I wasnt getting bit until Eventually, the porch became infested BAD. I would sit and get attacked nonstop every second. The lint roller came up with the same specks. Eventually I found out they could be transparent as well. Up until then I only knew them to be a darker color but this was after feeding. I dont get bit now & havent for some time but I still feel crawling at times and I absolutely have something in my nostrils, eyebrows, and eyelashes. I am wondering if this is still bird mites or an aftermath result because demodex mites came after showering constantly and changing skin conditions. No one understands and I am having my baby and I dont know what to do. I dont know how to clean my stuff that is covered in the tiny specks I mentioned earlier. Its a nightmare. No one understands.

By the way, the specks never appeared to be moving.
